The Color of School Infrastructure: Differences between White and Black Schools

The structural conditions of the school environment directly impact students’ learning, either working in favor of or against their trajectories. To contribute to this debate, the Whiteness Observatory analyzed data from the 2021 Brazilian School Census on Basic Education. The 2021 Brazilian School Census on Basic Education was chosen for this analysis because it is the last survey that also has microdata from the socioeconomic index (INSE) for the same year. School Census and the Socioeconomic Index (INSE, 2021) – which refers to student data collected by questionnaire, resulting in a scale from I to VII, where lower indicates poorer and higher indicates richer.
